Holiday Outfit Inspiration: Maternity Edition

1. Cozy Shawls
Maternity Chambray Top: Target // Cape Shawl: Forever 21 // Shoes: Call it Spring // Pants: Zara
Shawls and capes are not just for moms anymore. This is perfect for those who want a laid back look and stay cozy at the same time. Under your shawl, you can even dress it up if your staying indoors or just keep it comfy with a cute top and tights :) For a big bump, if you do wear a big shawl, balance the bottom out with something more fitting so you don't end up looking like your wearing a sack!

Dress: Joyce Leslie // Shawl: Random Boutique // Shoes: Forever 21

2. Dress to Impress
Top: H&M // Leather Jacket: Urban Outfitters // Fur Vest & Shoes: Forever 21 // Bag: Zara
Now sometimes its fun to dress up, but definitely can be hard in maternity. Try to stick with simple silhouettes or stuff that makes you longer like above with the fur vest or below with a straight dress. Dress it up some statement jewelry and you're ready to go!

Abayas: Inayah // Necklace: Zara // Shoes: Forever
Sweater: H&M // Suede Vest: Forever 21 // Shoes: TJ Maxx // Necklace: Walmart
Horizontal stripes sometimes can be a horrible idea with a big bump. But that is why I balanced it with a longline vest to give the illusion of length. This way it won't make me look wider then I already am.

3.  Oversized (my favorite)

Sweater: Joyce Leslie // Jeans: H&M // Shoes: Madden // Bag: H&M
I probably will be wearing this look for the last few weeks of my pregnancy. It's super comfy but that doesn't mean you have to look like a bum. Pair it with some tights and cute accessories and you have a easy outfit ready! This look, if you want, could also go with some cute heels or booties but these days it's definitely about comfort for me!

Which style would you wear for the Holidays?

5 Easy Last Minute Thanksgiving Decor Ideas

This past weekend I hosted a small Friendsgiving for a few of my girlfriends who came to visit before this baby arrives (inshAllah!!). I decided to have fun with the decor since it was only going to be 6 of us. It was definitely more fun to decorate for a smaller crowd because I could really focus on the details. I pulled all this together in a couple of days from common stores such as Target, the dollar store and TJ Maxx. Here are some last minute ideas you can do if you're hosting a small party at your house this weekend!

1. Charger Plates

Charger plates are a perfect way to add some fanciness to your party without breaking the bank. I found these for a dollar each at the dollar store. They also had them in silver. Both of these are easy colors to incorporate into your decor. I had regular white plates that I layered on top that were actually used for dinner. There were also white and fall themed plates at the dollar store too!

2. Personalized Table Seating

This was my favorite find on pinterest. Make your guests feel special by personalizing their seat! I got a roll of Kraft paper from Target for $3 and used it as a runner. You can also draw other festive doodlings on Kraft paper if you got a creative side!

3. Natural Decor

These centerpieces were so easy to make. I got these vases in a pack of four from Target. I actually did buy the dried leaves from TJ Maxx (lol) but you can easily grab them from outside. Most of them are yellow but they can still add some pretty natural decor to your party. I also picked up some of these acorns form outside. Everyone loved it!

4. Lights!
I just love lights! They add just a little bit of sparkle at a dinner. I got these for $2 from Target as well. Lay them out on a table or hang them!

5. Banner
Last but not least, who doesn't love a unique banner. I got this from Target too which came with 25 pieces and used a sharpie to fill it in!!

Our Boho Baby Shower 10.3.15

This past weekend my friends and family helped me throw me the most amazing baby shower! I wanted a simple all white baby shower with some pops of greenery and light pink. I love the boho look and really wanted to incorporate that into the decor. I wanted a simple and clean look. We were originally supposed to have outside on the patio but due to the weather and possibly hurricane we decided to move it inside. We definitely made it work and brought the outside in!! They definitely helped made everything amazing!! Here are details of all the decor :)

Mommy to Be Backdrop
I originally wasn't going to have a backdrop since it was supposed to be outside. When we moved it inside we quickly had to DIY a backdrop area in my mom's living room. We decided to use the fire place. We covered it with white curtains and made a burlap backdrop with tissue paper flowers to cover the TV and fire place. It was really easy to make!! We took cardboard from a box and covered it with burlap. The tissue ball flowers my friend made. A tutorial to make those flower can be found here. We then pinned it onto the board and hung the burlap backdrop on the TV. We added some simple decor with vases and greenery. On the side we added this amazing diaper cake my cousin made for me! For the mommy to be sign we got printed card stock from target and hand wrote Mommy to Be. I loved the subtle hints of pink!

For centerpieces, I wanted it mostly filled with natural greenery. But I also didn't want to spend too much money. I love the simplicity of baby's breath and thought it be a cute flower to have at a baby shower ;) I then got these long vases and succulent plants from IKEA to fill up the tables. Then we added a touch of pink with carnations in the vases. I love burlap and we used these burlap runners from my friends shower to add to the nature look of the event.

Dessert Table
I love dessert tables!! I found this idea obviously on pinterest and decided to copy it exactly! We got the wooden plank from Michaels and my friend painted Sweet Love on it. We made the backdrop really simply with these white curtains (4.99 for 2!) from IKEA. For the actual dessert table I got these white crates, the bird cage and decor pieces from Michaels and IKEA. I then placed all the desserts on white or clean plates. For the cake, we ordered a simple flower design cake from Wegmans!

Activity Stations & Favors
Baby Shower games and activities are always so much fun. My friend, Sejuti found this amazing idea to make headbands for the baby. Everyone made headbands for the baby, inshAllah and put their name on a tag so inshAllah when she wears it, it'll be a small gift from the :) We also did guess how many honeycombs game for fun!! We also had the "don't say baby" game. That was definitely a lot of fun to hear everyone getting everyone else pins! For favors we purchased these honey jars from Amazon. Something simple and sweet :)

Really the best baby shower I could ever dream of. Now it's just the final stretch!! Keep us in your prayers.

Modest Maternity Must-Haves!

Alhamdulillah, as you might have seen on my insta, I am expecting! It's definitely been hard not blogging about my journey but I definitely wanted to wait until I was further along. I am so excited and can't wait to share my journey. So throughout my pregnancy, I definitely feel there are some must haves to make it through. A huge part of me just always wants to wear sweats, and I definitely did in the beginning! But now especially with a little bump, I love dressing it up! Here are my first 5 Maternity Must Haves!
1. Maxi Dresses
I definitely live in maxi dresses as most pregnant woman do! The best part is that these days it is really easy to find long sleeves maxi dresses. For me, at least so far, I have been wearing regular clothes and just went up a size or two. I'm sure by the third trimester, I might have to get one or two maternity dresses. However, for now, a medium or large in regular clothes, does the job! These were definitely my savior during these hot summer days.

Dress: H&M // Scarf & Shoes: Target

2. Long Tunics
Tunic & Pants: Forever 21 // Scarf: Zara
These are particularly ideal for first and second trimester before the bump really starts to make an appearance. It is harder to find these in maternity size so regular size tunics will last you during the first 6 months. I still am wearing these, especially to work, but I can see in a month or so most of them not fitting me. These are in most stores and are perfect with tights or boyfriend jeans!

3. Comfortable Flats
This is probably one of the most obvious items you would want while pregnant. It is definitely important to keep comfortable flats with you. I got these from Target and have other ones that I found at TJ Maxx that are affordable and really comfortable. I personally never liked heels so during pregnancy, I really only wear flats. Since you'll be sticking to flats often, definitely invest in a good pair.

4. Stretch Leggings
Top: Forever 21 // Scarf: Urban Outfitters // Shoes: Forever 21
If you're wearing maxi dresses and long tunics, you obviously need leggings to go with. Bottoms are the hardest during pregnancy mainly because once you hit month 5 or 6, most bottoms stop fitting. Up till now, I was wearing my regular leggings. However, with bump growing day by date (literally!) I bought some maternity leggings from H&M. I used to think that maternity band on the stomach was weird, but let me tell is amazing!! It is super comfortable and also rounds out the belly underneath your shirts.

5.  Maternity Jeans
Last, but not least, we can't forget some classic jeans! Here, we have two options. Either you can buy maternity jeans or you can get waist expanders for your regular changes. It really all depends where you gain weight. If you gain weight just on you belly, you will do just fit with waist expanders that you can attach to all your pants. If you started to gain weight on your hips and thighs, then investing in one or two pairs of maternity jeans might be a good idea. I bought maternity jeans from H&M and the waist expander from amazon. Just depending on the type of jeans, some jeans still fit and some don't. So why not get both?

If you have been pregnant, what are some of your must haves? If not, try these out and let me know how it works!

Balcony on a Budget

One of the main features I always wanted in my first place was a balcony! My Pakistani side always dreamt of having chai in the evening on a balcony after work, enjoying the cool breeze. So when we moved in this apartment, I knew I would love this project! I've actually done this a few months ago but since it became so cold it was never used. I finally have begun to enjoy it since the weather has been so nice. Here is my beautiful balcony!

1. Seating
Bench Fabric: Joanne Fabric // Pillows: Walmart // Lights & Blanket: IKEA // Rug: Overstock //
Building Materials: Home Depot
I definitely made this balcony on a budget. I could of bought ready made benches but there be no creativity in that! For the base I used cinder blocks with holes in them and simple placed them on top of one another. I then go 3 pieces of 6 ft by 4 in by 4 in wood and simply placed them through the holes in the cinder blocks to keep them in place. I of course painted the blocks black and the pieces of wood a dark cognac. For the actual seat, it was pretty simple! This is definitely for those of us who don't have fancy tools or know how to sow. I got planks of wood and layered it with batting and foam and lastly the fabric of my choice. I simple crazy glued the fabric onto the back of the wood and viola! You have your bench seat.

2. Furniture
Coffee Table: IKEA ($9.99)
There was not much other furniture needed as it is a small balcony. I know this coffee table isn't meant to be for outdoors but come on it was 10 bucks! So far it's survived rain and snow!

3. Decor
Tea Cups: Anthropologie // Mat: TJ maxx // Plant, Tray, Candles: IKEA
Now the fun part! Actually decorating. Most of my apartment is very simple and minimalist as I do not like too much going on. I am starting to add some more prints and color though. So I wanted my balcony to be colorful and vibrant. I decided to get a carpet that would be the central focus for the balcony. Whenever you decorate a room, you always start off with one item that is the focus and then decorate around it. The pillows I got from Walmart and chose colors that brought out the teal in the carpet and one of the benches. Lastly for lighting, I wanted it to be magical so I draped lighting from a hook on the ceiling. Surprisingly, it provides a good amount of light at night.

4. All of it together!

And that is the whole look together! I definitely enjoyed putting this together. I hope this gives some inspiration to you too :)
